Needs verification
This guide is for an update-related flow and has not been re-checked in the last 60 days. Treat version numbers and release dates as “needs verification” until you see Settings → About phone → OS version on your own device. Do not download firmware from unknown sites.
Before you continue — risk of data loss
This guide includes steps that can change notifications, reset settings or change region. Back up chats to Google Drive and keep your Mi Account password handy. Try safer alternatives first (described below). Do not proceed on low battery.

HyperOS updates can appear stuck at 0 percent or show Downloading without progress when the Updater has not yet started writing the file. This is usually caused by low storage, a stale Updater cache, or weak Wi-Fi — not by a corrupted download. Pausing, freeing at least 6 GB, clearing the Updater cache and retrying on stable Wi-Fi fixes most stalls without downloading a ROM manually. Turning off Data Saver and keeping the battery above 20 percent also helps. The menu label for No restrictions varies by region, but the Updater path is the same on Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi on HyperOS 3 and 3.1. Check Settings → About phone → OS version and Storage before you start.
If the updater shows Not downloading at all, the cause is similar — storage or network — and the same checks apply before you wait for your region’s batch. Do not switch region to force the download; India and Global batches differ by device and IMEI, and a region change can hide the correct OTA.
Why the updater stalls at 0 percent
HyperOS Updater performs three checks before it writes the first chunk: free storage, network stability and battery. On POCO and Redmi phones with less than 5 GB free, the progress bar stays at 0 until space is available because the system cannot reserve a place for the file. Weak public Wi-Fi and Data Saver turned on have the same effect — the Updater pauses before the write to avoid a partial download that would need to be restarted.
This is not the same as a corrupted file. At 0 percent the file has not started writing to storage, so there is nothing to verify yet. On Global builds the Updater silently retries after you close the app, which is why some users see 0 percent for minutes and then see Downloading again after reopening. On India builds the stall is often accompanied by a background retry that only appears after you close the Updater and tap Resume. Both behaviors are expected when the pre-checks fail, and both resolve once the checks pass.
A common misunderstanding is that a factory reset will move the bar. It will not, because the reset itself needs free space and the Updater still checks storage afterwards. A reset also restarts the staged rollout check from zero, which can make the OTA appear later rather than sooner. The steps below address the three checks directly without erasing data.
Steps to fix a stuck or not-downloading update
Use only official Settings and the built-in Updater. No manual ROM download, region change or unknown-source toggle is needed for a 0 percent stall. Do the checks in the order below so you can see which control helped.
The Updater needs space, a clean cache and a stable connection. Freeing storage creates room for the file, clearing the cache removes a stale resume point, and retrying on Wi-Fi with Data Saver off lets the write start. Together, these three move the progress past 1 percent, after which the download continues in the background.
-
In Settings → About phone → System update, tap Pause if it shows Downloading, then Resume once. If it stays at 0, move to the next step instead of repeatedly tapping Resume — repeated taps can queue extra resume attempts that delay the start.
-
Go to Settings → Storage and free at least 6 GB by removing large videos, offline maps or app cache — not by factory reset. On HyperOS the Updater needs contiguous free space before it reserves the file; below 5 GB the bar will not leave 0 regardless of Wi-Fi speed. Check that free space shows above 6 GB before continuing.
-
Go to Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Show system apps → Updater → Storage → Clear cache. This removes the stale resume point that can keep the bar at 0. Do not choose Clear data, which would reset Updater preferences without helping the download.
-
Connect to stable Wi-Fi, plug in over 20 percent battery, and turn off Data Saver in Settings → SIM & network → Data Saver. Data Saver can pause large downloads on mobile data and on some Wi-Fi networks that are marked as metered.
-
Tap Resume or Download again and leave the screen on for 2 to 3 minutes until it passes 1 percent. If it moves past 1, keep Wi-Fi on until the install prompt appears — you do not need to keep the screen on after that, but do not force reboot during the download.
Warning
Do not change region to force the download. Region switching can hide future OTAs for your purchased region and does not fix a storage or cache stall. Wait for your region’s batch after the checks above — see the HyperOS 3 rollout hub for staggered dates.

If it still stays at 0 percent after two retries
If the bar does not leave 0 after freeing 6 GB and clearing cache twice, the download has not yet been offered to your device batch, or the Updater needs a full package request rather than a resume.
-
Check batch status. Open Settings → About phone → OS version and note your current build and region (Global shows MIXM, EEA shows EUXM, India shows INXM). Compare with the confirmed list on the HyperOS 3 hub — if your model is not yet listed for your region, the OTA has not reached your batch and retrying will keep showing 0.
-
Request latest package. In System update → three dots → Download latest package, tap it only if you have over 8 GB free and two cache clears did not help. This is still the official Updater path, not a third-party ROM download, and it requests the full package rather than a delta.
-
Check storage again. After a failed write the Updater can hold a partial file that still counts as used space. Check Settings → Storage again — if free space dropped after the attempt, clear Updater cache once more to release the partial file.
Device and version differences
The Updater path is the same on Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi on HyperOS 3 and 3.1, but the region batch and storage threshold are worth noting. The table shows the only verified differences.
HyperOS 3.1 on Android 16 uses the same Updater flow. The percentage is shown after the same three checks, so the fix above applies to both.
| Device | HyperOS | Path difference |
|---|---|---|
| POCO F6 (Global) | 3 / 3.1 | System update → Pause/Resume — Global batch first |
| Redmi Note 13 Pro (India) | 3 | System update → Check for updates twice — India staged 10–20% |
| Xiaomi 14 (EEA) | 3.1 · Android 16 | System update → Download latest package — EEA after two cache clears |
Do not switch region to get a different batch faster. The OTA for your purchased region is the correct one for modem and dialer handling; a Global package on an India device can require a later re-flash.
Frequently asked questions
Is the download corrupted at 0 percent?
No. The file has not started writing. Freeing storage and clearing Updater cache usually moves it past 0. Only use Download latest package after two failed retries.
Will clearing Updater cache delete my apps?
No. It only clears the temporary Updater cache. Apps, photos and chats stay. Do not choose Clear data, which would reset the Updater settings.
Should I change region to get it faster?
No. Region switching can hide future OTAs and does not fix a 0 percent stall. Keep your purchased region and wait for your batch after fixing storage and Wi-Fi.
How much free space do I need?
Free at least 6 GB before retrying. HyperOS checks space before writing the first chunk; below that, progress stays at 0 until space is available.
