HyperOS 3.1 New Features: What Has Actually Changed

HyperOS 3.1 is a follow-up to HyperOS 3 that keeps the same general design while adding refinements on top of Android 16 for eligible devices. What has actually changed is narrower than early videos suggest: the confirmed base is Android 16, with modest system refinements, while features like Super Island, recent-apps layout tweaks and lock-screen widget changes are either reported or limited to certain models. What does not change is the need to check eligibility per model and region before waiting for an OTA. The update remains staged — Global, EEA and India receive it in separate batches — and availability varies by device. If you watch a video claiming all eligible phones get every 3.1 feature on day one, treat it as reported, not confirmed. The sections below separate confirmed items (with a Xiaomi community or support source) from reported items that are only visible on specific devices during testing.

What is confirmed in HyperOS 3.1

HyperOS 3.1 is confirmed as an Android 16–based build for the models on the official eligible list. On a confirmed device that has received the OTA, About phone shows HyperOS 3.1 and Android version 16 on the same screen. This is the only change that applies to every eligible device equally — the base version bump.

Beyond the base, Xiaomi’s release notes for 3.1 list stability and performance refinements rather than a new visual system. The notes mention smoother system animations and refined permission screens tied to Android 16, but they do not promise a new Control Center or a new icon set for all models. When a note is available for your exact build on c.mi.com, that build’s note is the source to trust over a summarised video.

A common misunderstanding is that HyperOS 3.1 automatically brings every feature shown in the first beta. Beta builds often include experiments that do not ship to all eligible devices. Until a feature appears in the release notes for your build or on your device after the OTA, treat it as reported.

What is reported or device-specific

Several 3.1 features are real but limited. Super Island, the recent-apps layout change, and the lock-screen widget row are the most cited. Each is device-specific and sometimes region-specific, which is why two eligible phones can update to 3.1 and still look slightly different.

Super Island is reported for Xiaomi 14 and a few POCO F-series devices, but not for every Redmi model that is eligible for the base update. The recent-apps layout tweak appears on Global HyperOS 3.1 for some devices while EEA keeps the previous layout for the same model. Lock-screen widgets are labelled confirmed for HyperOS 3, but their expanded row in 3.1 is only visible where the device supports the larger widget area. Steps to check what changed on your phone

Use only on-device checks and official notes. No manual firmware download is needed to see what 3.1 changed for your model.

The check is three parts: confirm you are actually on 3.1, compare the official note for your build, and test the specific feature you care about. That order avoids comparing a 3.0 build with a 3.1 feature list.

1. Open Settings → About phone → OS version and check that it shows HyperOS 3.1. If it still shows 3.0, you have not received the 3.1 OTA yet, even if you are eligible — see the rollout timing in the HyperOS 3 and Android 16 guide.

2. On the same screen, check Android version. On a confirmed 3.1 build it shows 16. If it shows 15, your device is still on the 3.0 base for your batch.

3. Open the official release note for your exact build on c.mi.com/global/board/59 and compare its listed changes with what you see. Only changes listed there for your build are confirmed for your device.

4. Test the feature you expected: long-press the lock screen for widgets, swipe through Recents for layout, and check for Super Island in the status area. If a feature from a video does not appear, it is likely not shipped for your model — note it as not available on all devices rather than a bug to fix with a reset.

If a feature you expected is missing

If Super Island or the recent-apps layout does not appear after you confirmed 3.1 and Android 16, the feature is likely device-specific. Check the table below rather than clearing data or reinstalling the launcher. Clearing launcher data removes your home-screen arrangement without adding the feature.

• Super Island not showing. Check if your model is in the reported list for Super Island in the HyperOS 3 and Android 16 guide. If it is not listed there as confirmed or reported, the omission is expected for that model.

• Recent-apps looks unchanged. EEA and Global keep different layouts for the same model in early batches. This is a staged visual difference, not a failed update. The layout may align in a later incremental OTA.

• Lock-screen widgets missing. On some POCO devices the extra widget row is disabled by default. Check Settings → Lock screen → Widgets — if the row is not offered there, your device does not expose it in 3.1.

Device and version differences

What changed in HyperOS 3.1 depends on model and region. The table shows the only confirmed distinctions; we do not infer eligibility for an unlisted device.

HyperOS 3.1 base is Android 16 for confirmed eligible devices. Feature availability within 3.1 still varies, so check your model row before expecting a specific addition.

Do not treat a leaked eligibility list as confirmed. Only devices that appear in the official HyperOS 3 Eligible Devices guide with a c.mi.com source for your region are eligible. Others remain pending confirmation.
