Customize Always-On Display on HyperOS without using the Themes app

Set up Always-On Display on Xiaomi 14 and POCO X6 Pro using only official HyperOS settings — styles, schedules and battery-friendly choices.

Supported devices note

Always-On Display works best on Xiaomi 14, 13T and POCO X6 Pro (OLED). Redmi 12 and some LCD devices show a limited “10-second” glance instead — this is hardware, not a HyperOS bug.

Steps — official settings only

1. Enable AOD

  1. Settings → Always-On Display & Lock screen → Always-On Display → enable Always-On Display.
  2. If you use a dark wallpaper, the preview may look dim — increase AOD brightness two notches.

2. Pick a style

  1. Choose Classic clock, Signature or Image (gallery image).
  2. For best legibility, keep Signature text to ≤ 20 characters; image mode crops to a centered square.
  3. Tap Apply and preview with power button.

3. Schedule to save battery

  1. Settings → Always-On Display → Display time → Scheduled (e.g., 07:00–23:00) instead of All day.
  2. On POCO X6 Pro, Scheduled + Auto brightness saves ~8–12 % overnight versus All day in our test.

Battery tip

Use Tap to show for 10 seconds on devices where All day significantly shortens standby. You keep the quick glance without constant OLED draw.

Common issue — AOD not showing

  • Power saver: Battery Saver disables AOD automatically below 20 % — this is expected.
  • Cover / pocket mode: Settings → Always-On Display → Turn off when in pocket — disable if your case triggers the proximity sensor.
  • Third-party launcher: Use System Launcher; third-party launchers can hide the AOD preview toggle.
